Things That Hold Me Back Remind Me Og My

Prayer Guide 05 September 2021

Sunday

Father, how I thank You that nothing is impossible with You – nothing is too difficult! Forgive me for allowing situations and circumstances in my life to overwhelm me and dim Your greatness. I have worried and been anxious Father, and Your Word says that I should do neither. (Forgive me Lord…)  I choose now to cast every care and anxiety I have onto You, for You care for me.

And so, Father, I lay at Your feet:

… The concern in my heart for those dear to me, who have yet to know that Jesus has come so that they might have Life. Shine the light of Your presence into their hearts and open their spiritual eyes (Pray for these by name.) I cast this care onto You.

… The worries that overtake me regarding my future and finances (Commit your specific circumstances to Him.) You know all that I need and I cast these cares onto You.

… The condition and darkness of the world around me, the hopelessness that permeates the media and so many of the lives I touch. You are the God of all hope and You hold the world in Your hands (Ask Him to fill you afresh with the Holy Spirit that peace, hope and faith might increase in your life and the light of Jesus shine through you. Ask the Holy Spirit to prepare you to 'give the reason for the hope that you have with gentleness and respect' to those who might ask you.)

Empower me by Your Spirit to not worry about my life, but to make all that concerns me, a matter of prayer. Remind me of my great worth in Your eyes – that I belong to You. May I always be more concerned with the things of Your Kingdom than the things of men. Teach me to rejoice even in my weakness and need, knowing that when I am weak, then You are strong and Christ's power rests on me. When I don't know what to do, like King Jehoshaphat, may my eyes be on You. Direct my steps I pray.

I ask that like the boy with the lunch of five small loaves and two fish, You take my life, my resources, my gifts and abilities and break them, break me, and use me to feed many for the sake of Your kingdom. I choose to fix my eyes on You, Lord Jesus, lay aside the things that hold me back, and run towards You. May it be so, for I ask all these things, in Your powerful Name. Amen.

Monday

Pry our fingers off of the things of this world Lord. May we not love the world, but may our love for You increase (1 John 2:15)!

May each of us Father, use the gifts that You have given to us to serve others, that we might be faithful in dispensing Your grace (1 Peter 4:10).

May we become radical in the way that we follow after You, Lord Jesus, radical in the way that we turn from sin, radical in our obedience, radical in our acts of love.

Tuesday

Remind us by the Holy Spirit, I pray, that we are dead to our transgressions and sins and alive in Christ! Awaken the sleeping places of our lives to this great truth (Ephesians 2:1, 5).

This day, Father, may I, my brothers and sisters in Christ, live before others as those who are clothed in Christ. May nothing that we say or do tarnish the testimony of Jesus (Galatians 3:27).

Father, as Your people, may we clothe ourselves in the strength that You have provided through the Holy Spirit. Teach us to depend on You (Isaiah 52:1)!

Wednesday

Father, may the children and students of our fellowship grow strong in You and in Your mighty power. Protect them from the evil one who battles to distract them during this season of online learning.  Go before them in this new school year. Strengthen them to be salt and light (Ephesians 6:10; John 17:15).

For those among us who are experiencing trials of all kinds, I ask that You strengthen us by the Holy Spirit to be strong and courageous. May fear and discouragement disappear and a fresh realization of Your nearness in the midst of our adversities, overwhelm us (Joshua 1:9)!

I ask Father, that the ECB Oasis Women's Ministry might have city-wide impact. Strengthen and empower all who participate to be salt and light.  May many be built up in their faith! May those who teach and lead be encouraged by the Holy Spirit to serve with joy.

Father, I pray for those from ECB seeking answers about who You are and what it means to follow Jesus. May they be drawn by the Holy Spirit to salvation.

Thursday

Heavenly Father, may the fruit of the Spirit increase among us in all of its fullness. May we live lives that are full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In all conversations, relationships and situations, may the Holy Spirit use us to make Jesus known (Galatians 6:22-23).

Forgive us, Father, for the ways that we follow You half-heartedly. May we become those who love You with all of our hearts, all of our souls and strength (Deuteronomy 6:4).

Father, may we as your people always acknowledge and take to heart that You are God in heaven above and on the earth below – that there is no other. Help us to acknowledge You in all that we do (Deuteronomy 4:39; Proverbs 3:5-6).

I ask, Father, that cultural preferences be set aside and that we will be increasingly unified under the 'culture of Christ.' Make us one, Lord (John 17).

Friday

Thank You, Father, that all things have been placed under the authority and feet of Jesus! Therefore, as those who are in Christ, may we put off fear and timidity and live out the Gospel with greater confidence and joy (Ephesians 1:22; 2 Timothy 1:7).

Father, I ask in Jesus' name that the nations of the earth would be blessed through our community of faith. Expand our territory, I pray. May we be part of global Gospel-witness (Galatians 3:8-9).

Father, may the light of Your face shine upon us – surround us with Your favour, as a shield (Psalm 4:6; 5:12)!

Father, may those who are new to our faith community find acceptance and the welcome of Jesus among us. May we all grow in godliness and Christ-likeness (1 Timothy 6:11).

Saturday

I ask in Jesus' mighty name, that You bring the hidden things in our lives to light. Purify us Father and make us holy (Job 28:11).

In Jesus' mighty name, I ask, Father, that we would be followers of Jesus who live by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit. May the sinful nature in each of us truly be crucified I pray (Galatians 5:24-25)!

May our times of worship be infused with fresh Spirit-life. Prepare our hearts this day (prepare my heart) to give You the glory due Your name as we gather tomorrow online. Teach us to worship You in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

May each of us extend the 'welcome of Jesus' to those around us, and may Jesus be seen among us, that many might come to faith in Him. Open the eyes of the spiritually blind! May there be salvation and renewal of faith as You awaken our spiritually lazy hearts!
